The MX Series was introduced as Kubota's bridge between the compact and utility tractor categories, offering 55.5 to 63.4 gross horsepower in a frame size that sits above the Standard L Series compact tractors but below the M60 Series utility tractors. The current MX Series replaced the older MX4800 / MX5200 / MX5800 generation (49.3 to 61.4 horsepower) and the even earlier MX4700 / MX5100 generation (48.2 to 52.2 horsepower) with the new MX5400 / MX6000 lineup at 55.5 / 63.4 gross HP. The MX5400 specifically uses the Kubota V2403-CR-E4 four cylinder common rail diesel, the same engine family used in the larger Grand L60 Series compact tractors and several Kubota mini excavators.
Drivetrain options on the MX5400 include the gear drive Synchro Shuttle transmission with 4 speeds and 2 ranges (DT and DTC variants) and the hydrostatic transmission for the cab equipped HSTC variant. The F configuration is the front loader package. Many MX5400 service parts cross to the L4701 (largest Standard L) and to the L60 Series compact tractors because all of these machines run engines from the V2403 family with the same cooling system architecture and similar cab parts on the cab equipped variants.
Cab service is the leading category for the cab equipped MX5400DTC and MX5400HSTC variants. Cab Filter T1855-71600 covers the cab climate intake (shared with the L3560 / L4060 Grand L60 Series cabs and the M60 utility tractor cabs). Engine sealing service uses Seal 19202-04460, the engine seal shared across the L Series, MX Series, and the M Series tractors that all use V2403 engine family.
Engine internal hardware uses Gasket 1G911-14523 for engine sealing and Muffler Gasket T0070-16420 for exhaust system service. Smaller assembly hardware (Guide Oil Gauge 17456-36420, O-Ring 04817-50300, Washer 04512-50080, Washer 04512-50120) is typically batched into a service order alongside the larger components. The MX Series is positioned for professional landscape contractors and small commercial farm operators who run mixed Kubota equipment.
