The U55-4 is the 5 ton class minimum tail swing entry in Kubota's current 4 Series mini excavator lineup. It replaced the legacy U55-3 from this size class with Tier 4 Final emissions compliance via the V2607-CR-E4 common rail engine, refreshed RD451 generation cab and operator station, and updated hydraulic auxiliary plumbing. The minimum tail swing design lets the U55-4 work tight against walls, foundations, and roadside applications where a conventional tail swing machine cannot fit. Many U55-4 service parts cross to the KX057-4 (the 5 ton conventional tail swing sibling) and to the KX080-4 (the 8 ton conventional tail swing sibling) because Kubota engineered the 4 Series on a shared parts platform with engine and main hydraulic pump common across the machines.

Cab glass on the U55-4 cabin variants uses the RD451 series dimensions, which is unique to the 4 Series cab generation and does not interchange with the legacy U35 / U45 / U55 minimum tail swing cab glass. Many 4 Series cab service parts cross between U55-4 and U35-4 because Kubota harmonized cab components across the minimum tail swing line.
