John Deere Air Filter Fitment and Service Intervals

John Deere air filters are specified by engine family and intake system design. Tier 4 and Tier 4 Final engines use radial seal filters like RE504145 and PE71011293, which seat against the housing with a circular rubber seal on the filter end. Older Tier 2 and Tier 3 engines often use axial seal designs with a flat gasket at the open end.

Primary filters handle the bulk of air cleaning and are typically serviced first. Inner filters, sometimes called safety filters, sit behind the primary and catch any dust that breaks through when the primary is damaged or saturated. Common primary plus inner combinations include M131802 paired with M131803 for compact tractor applications and AH19582H as a standalone primary on some skid steer platforms.

John Deere recommends inspecting the air filter every 50 operating hours and replacing it when restriction indicators activate or at the maximum service interval listed in the operator manual. Operating in dusty environments like demolition, feed mill work, or arid construction sites can reduce filter life to a fraction of the nominal interval.

Types of Replacement Air Filters for John Deere Equipment

Aftermarket air filters are built to OEM filtration specifications. The key metric is absolute rating, which describes the size of particle the filter will stop with near-complete efficiency. Our aftermarket filters match the OEM absolute rating so abrasive dust does not reach the engine.

Radial seal filters like AT332909 and AT338105 have become the standard on current Tier 4 Final engines because they install faster and seal more reliably than axial designs. The rubber seal compresses against the housing wall when the filter seats, creating a dust-tight seal without a separate gasket.

Outer air filters like RG60203 and CH12767 are typical primary filters on larger ag and construction engines. Safety or inner filters are usually slightly smaller and thinner, designed to fit inside the primary housing. Always service the primary first and only replace the inner when a service interval triggers it, since unnecessary inner replacements shorten filter life without benefit.
