The KX91-3 is the 4 ton class entry in Kubota's legacy 3 Series mini excavator lineup. Three production generations sit under the KX91-3 model designation, distinguished by serial number range. The original KX91-3 covers S/N 20000 through 29999 (approximately late 1990s into early 2000s production). The KX91-3S "Super Series" upgrade covers S/N 30000 through 39999, with revised hydraulics and operator station improvements. The KX91-3S2 "Super Series Tier 3" upgrade covers S/N 40000 onward, with the engine emissions tier moved to Tier 3 compliance, plus revised cab and hydraulic system updates. The KX91-3S2CA designation is the Canadian spec version of the S2 generation. The platform was eventually replaced by the current 4 Series KX033-4 in this size class.

Cab glass on the KX91-3 cabin variants uses the RC411 series dimensions, the same series that fits the KX121-3 and KX161-3 cabin variants in the same generation. Engine and fuel system service parts are largely common across all three KX91-3 generations because Kubota carried the same V2003 / V2203 engine family forward across the production run, with the Tier 3 emissions update being the primary mechanical change between generations.
