Bulbs match by base type, wattage, and voltage together, and all three have to agree. Assemblies match by mounting and lens shape. Equipment lighting works far harder than road vehicle lighting of the same rating. A machine tracking over rough ground shakes a filament continuously, which is why a bulb chosen on rating alone from an automotive shelf can fail in a fraction of its expected life. Types of Replacement Lights and Bulbs

Work lamps and headlight assemblies provide the working light and are replaced complete when the housing, reflector, or seal is damaged rather than just the bulb.

Bulbs and sockets are the serviceable parts inside them. Sockets matter more than their price suggests: a light that flickers, dims, or works intermittently is far more often a corroded socket or a poor ground than a failing bulb, and fitting a second new bulb into a green socket wastes both.

Lenses and covers seal the housing as much as they colour the output. A cracked tail light lens lets water into the housing, and the water then takes out the socket and the bulb behind it. Replacing a lens promptly is what keeps a small part from becoming an assembly.
