The D902 sits at the top of Kubota's Super Mini Series 3 cylinder lineup, the most compact diesel engine family Kubota produces. Where the larger 05 Series and 03 Series engines are sized for skid loaders, mini excavators, and compact tractors, the Super Mini Series targets the smallest possible diesel applications: zero turn mowers, sub compact tractors, the SCL1000 stand on track loader, smaller industrial sweepers, and the most compact aerial work platforms where weight and engine bay volume are the binding constraints. The current D902-K is electronically controlled with the same TVCR (Three Vortex Combustion System) used on the larger 05 Series engines, and the D902-T turbocharged variant produces up to 18.5 kW (24.8 HP) at 3200 rpm for applications that need a power bump from the same engine package.
The D902 has become a fixture in the turf equipment industry specifically because the engine package fits into mowing equipment chassis where larger diesels do not, while still offering the durability and torque of a diesel over the gasoline engine alternative. Kubota Engine America has highlighted the D902-T as a perfect option for turf machines in published materials, reflecting the dominant deployment pattern for this engine.
Fuel system service is the leading category for the D902 because the small displacement engine in turf and stand on equipment sees high duty cycle hours that drive frequent fuel filter changes. Fuel Filter Cartridge RD819-51280 is the primary, with In Line Fuel Filter 1258143011 (and 12581-43012 alternate) covering the secondary in line filter on most installations.
Engine Oil Filter HH1J0-32430 is the spin on lube filter for the D902, with the alternate HH150-32430 covering older revisions. The same EOF family is used across the BX sub compact tractors, the smaller F Series mowers, and the SCL1000 stand on track loader because the entire compact engine family shares the same lube filter housing. Engine internal hardware is heavily represented in D902 inventory because the smallest engine in the catalog sees the highest hour density in the field.
