The D722 is the smallest 3 cylinder engine in Kubota's Super Mini Series, sized below the D902 in displacement and weight. The Kubota Super Mini Series specifically targets compact equipment installations where engine bay volume and weight are the primary design constraints. The D722 is one of Kubota's most widely OEM specified compact diesels because the small physical envelope fits where larger engines do not, while still delivering the durability and torque characteristics of a true diesel engine over the gasoline alternative. Kubota engineered the seamless transition from D722-E3B (Tier 3) to D722-E4B (Tier 4) to maintain the same level of performance and physical dimensions, which lets OEM equipment integrators upgrade emissions tier without redesigning their equipment around the engine.
The WG752 spark ignited engines (WG752-G gasoline and WG752-GL gasoline / LPG dual fuel) share the same external footprint as the D722, which gives OEM equipment makers a fuel flexibility option from a single engine bay design. This is why a piece of equipment that originally shipped with a D722 diesel can later be sourced with a WG752 gasoline variant from the same equipment manufacturer without major chassis modifications.
Common applications for the D722 include compact zero turn mowers, sub compact tractor variants, the smallest aerial work platforms, compact welders and generators, sweepers, ground support equipment, and a long list of OEM industrial machines where the 18 to 19 horsepower band is the design target.
D722 service is dominated by routine maintenance items shared with the larger D902 because the two engines use the same lube filter housing and the same fuel system architecture. Engine Oil Filter HH1J0-32430 (and the alternate HH150-32430) covers the spin on lube filter for the D722. Fuel system service uses In Line Fuel Filter 1258143011 (and 12581-43012 alternate revision) for the secondary filter on most installations.
Engine internal hardware including Gear Ring 16871-63820, Glow Plug 1G679-65512, Exhaust Manifold Gasket 15862-12350, and Oil Gauge Plug 1G513-36550 covers top end refresh work, which is common on D722 engines that see high duty cycle hours in commercial mowing and ground support applications. Cold weather start service is a meaningful order category for D722 powered equipment in northern climates because the small displacement engine relies more heavily on glow plug performance than larger diesels for cold start reliability.
