The D1703 is the smaller 3 cylinder option in Kubota's 03-M Series direct injection family, the same family that includes the V2403, V2203, and V2003 4 cylinder counterparts. Where the 05 Series engines use indirect injection for simpler service architecture, the 03-M Series direct injection design delivers higher fuel efficiency and lower particulate matter emissions per unit horsepower. The D1703 specifically is positioned as the entry to that 03-M direct injection family, with the larger V2403 / V2203 / V2003 stepping up to higher displacement when more power is needed within the same direct injection architecture.
Variants compliant with Tier 2, Tier 3, interim Tier 4, and Tier 4 Final emissions are all in current production through the D1703-M-E2B, D1703-M-E3B, D1703-M-DI-E4B, and D1703-M-E4-BG2 designations. The D1703-M-BG2 generator package variant runs at 1800 rpm constant load for stationary standby and prime power applications. In the Kubota equipment lineup the D1703 sees use in select compact construction machines, smaller M Series tractor variants, and several mower applications. Outside Kubota, the D1703 is OEM specified into compact wheel loaders, smaller skid steer loaders from manufacturers other than Kubota, ground support equipment, and stationary generator packages where the 25 horsepower band is the design target.
Cooling system service is the leading category for the D1703 because the larger displacement engines that use Kubota's 03-M direct injection architecture put more thermal load through the cooling system than the smaller 05 Series alternatives. Water Pump 1A051-73410 covers the cooling water circulation. Thermostat Assembly 1A021-73012 covers the cooling thermostat housing. Alternator 16404-64012 is a recurring electrical service replacement on the D1703 across multiple OEM applications.
Engine Oil Filter 1C02032433 is the spin on lube filter shared with the V2403, V2203, and D1503 (all 03 / 05 Series engines that use the same lube filter housing). Fuel system service uses In Line Fuel Filter 1258143011 and the 12581-43012 alternate revision. Engine internal hardware (Oil Gauge Plug 1G513-36550, Guide Oil Gauge 17456-36420) and smaller assembly fasteners cover routine top end work.
