Types of Replacement Wiper Blades

Blades are sized in inches on equipment, and length is set by the glass rather than by any standard. Measuring an old blade only helps if you are confident it was the correct one to begin with, and a machine bought used has often had whatever was on the shelf fitted at some point.

Blade rubber hardens from ultraviolet exposure and heat as much as from use. A machine parked outdoors through a season can have blades that are finished before they have wiped much at all, which is why blade condition tracks where a machine sits more than how many hours it has run.

If a new blade still streaks or chatters, the blade is not the problem. Either the arm has lost its spring pressure and is no longer holding the blade to the glass, or the wiper is being run dry. Both destroy a new blade quickly, so fix the cause before fitting a second one.
