The U35 is the 3.5 ton class entry in Kubota's U Series, a lineup specifically built around minimum tail swing geometry. Where a conventional tail swing mini excavator (the KX Series) extends its counterweight beyond the track width when rotating, the U Series keeps the rotating upper structure inside the track width or at minimal overhang, which makes the machine safer to operate in tight urban utility installations, trench work close to walls or fences, and roadway projects with active lane closures. The original U35 covers S/N 20000 onward production, and the U35-S2 "Super Series Tier 3" upgrade covers S/N 40000 onward with revised hydraulics and Tier 3 emissions compliance. The current 4 Series replacement is the U35-4, which won the 2019 EquipmentWatch Highest Retained Value Award in its class, validating the resale value and durability of the U Series platform.

Many U35 service parts cross to KX Series mini excavators in the same generation because Kubota carried the same V1505 engine, the same air cleaner housing, and many of the same fuel system components forward across both lines. Cab glass on the U35 cabin variants uses dimensions specific to the minimum tail swing cab and does not interchange with the larger RC411 series glass used on KX121-3 / KX161-3 cabs. Common Replacement Parts for the Kubota U35
