Hydraulic Filter Fitment and Compatibility

Hydraulic filters match to the machine's circuit rather than its engine, which is the opposite of how oil and fuel filters work, so the OEM number from the machine's parts diagram is the reliable identifier. Common replacements include the hydraulic oil filters replacing Bobcat OEM 6661248 and 6677652, the hydraulic case drain filter element replacing Bobcat OEM 6661807, the spin-on hydraulic filter replacing Kubota OEM 3270137950, and the spin-on Duramax filter replacing New Holland OEM 81863799.

Most machines carry more than one hydraulic filter, and this is where owners get caught. A skid steer typically runs a main hydraulic or hydrostatic filter plus one or two case drain filters, and some designs add an in-tank suction screen. Changing the main filter and leaving the case drains is a common and expensive miss, since a blocked case drain builds pressure where the drive motors least tolerate it.

Types of Replacement Hydraulic Filters

Spin-on filters thread onto a filter head and are the most straightforward change. Cartridge and in-tank elements drop into a housing inside or on the reservoir. Case drain filters sit in the low-pressure return from the drive motors and are usually smaller and easier to overlook. Suction strainers and screens sit before the pump and often need cleaning rather than replacing.

Hydraulic fluid is the machine's most expensive consumable, and filters are what protect it and the pumps it feeds. Change intervals commonly run 500 to 1,000 hours depending on the circuit, with the first change after a rebuild much earlier because assembly debris finds its way in.
