Drive Train Fitment and Compatibility

A skid steer's final drive is a chain rather than a gearbox. The hydrostatic motor turns a sprocket inside an oil-filled chaincase, and chain carries that drive out to each axle. Drive train on these machines therefore means chain, sprockets, axle shafts, and the seals and breather that keep the chaincase oil where it belongs. Common replacements include the front axle shaft replacing OEM 6688829, the axle shaft replacing OEM 6706032, the axle sleeve repair kit replacing OEM 6722907, the link chain replacing OEM 6675333, the gear side boot kit replacing OEM 7359312, the pivot tube replacing OEM 7016741, and the chaincase breather vent replacing OEM 6680970.

This page also serves a second machine type. Toolcat utility work machines have a real suspension where a skid steer has none, so the springs and steering components here belong to those machines: the right and left suspension springs replacing OEM 7131652 and 7131653, the leaf spring replacing OEM 7227414, and the tie rod replacing OEM 7521748. The suspension springs are handed, so confirm the side before ordering.

Types of Replacement Drive Train Parts

Axle shafts and sleeve repair kits address the same wear in two ways. The sleeve kit restores the sealing surface where a seal has cut a groove into the shaft over thousands of hours, which is a far cheaper repair than a new shaft and is the reason a fresh seal on an unrepaired shaft starts weeping again quickly.

Chain and sprockets wear together. Chain stretches with load and hours, and a stretched chain rides higher on the sprocket teeth, which then wear to a hooked profile that chews the next chain faster than the last. Chaincase hardware includes the breather vent, and that small part is worth understanding: a plugged breather lets the case pressurise as it heats, and the pressure pushes oil out past the axle seals. If a chaincase keeps losing oil after new seals, the breather is the part to look at.
