Carbide Bit Fitment and Compatibility

Bits are matched to the holder they seat in rather than to the attachment as a whole, so the shank has to suit the holder even where two bits look similar at the tip. Common replacements include the carbide tooth bit replacing OEM 7338747, the carbide tooth replacing OEM 7223896, the carbide auger teeth replacing OEM 6675275 and 7001516, the auger tooth replacing OEM 6667489, the asphalt carbide tooth replacing OEM 6650137, the all purpose planer bit replacing OEM 7280507, the concrete bit replacing OEM 7280508, the blunt point bit replacing OEM 7287132, the tooth holder replacing OEM 6685690, and the O-ring replacing OEM 7010289.

Bits are consumable and are meant to wear. The holder is not. That distinction drives the whole economics of this page: holders are welded or pinned to the drum or auger and are considerably more expensive to replace, in labour as much as in parts. Running bits past the end of their useful life lets the wear move into the holder, which turns a routine bit change into a drum rebuild.

Types of Replacement Carbide Bits and Teeth

Planer and asphalt bits cut pavement on cold planer attachments and are chosen by the material being cut. Concrete and blunt point bits suit harder or more abrasive material where a sharper profile would chip rather than cut.

Auger teeth cut soil and frost on auger attachments and take shock loading every time they meet buried stone. Tooth holders and retaining hardware secure each bit and set the angle it presents to the material.

Round-shank bits are designed to rotate freely in their holder so they wear evenly and stay conical. A bit that has seized in its holder stops turning and wears flat on one side, which is why an attachment showing uneven wear across a drum usually has bits that are stuck rather than bits that were wrong.
