Cab Filter Fitment and Compatibility

Many enclosed cabs take two different cab filters, not one, and this is the single most common reason a cab filter change does not fix poor airflow. A fresh air filter cleans outside air on its way into the cab, usually behind an external grille or panel. A recirculating filter cleans the air already inside the cab as it passes back through the blower, and it is normally inside the cab behind a trim panel. Replacing one and not the other leaves half the restriction in place. Common replacements include the fresh air cab filter replacing OEM 7176099, the recirculating air filter replacing OEM 7193354, the cab air filter replacing OEM 6678207, and the cab heater air filters replacing OEM 6677983 and 7231496.

Types of Replacement Cab Filters

Fresh air filters take the harder duty. They see raw jobsite dust, chaff, and pollen at the intake, so they load faster than anything inside the cab and they are the ones that protect everything downstream.

Recirculating filters carry a lighter load but run constantly, and they are the ones most often forgotten entirely, sometimes for the life of the machine. Cab heater filters sit ahead of the heater core on machines that use a separate element there.

A restricted cab filter costs more than comfort. It makes the blower work against a restriction every hour the machine runs, which shortens the motor's life, and it weakens heating and air conditioning performance enough to look like a system fault. Where cab air seems weak, change both filters before suspecting anything else.
